A Photo Story on Food Networks in Bangalore

The Hungry Cities is a global collaborative research project across Africa, Asia and the Caribbean to address the food security challenge of rapid urbanisation. It was created in 2015 to address the links between three of the UN Sustainable Development Goals; #1 No Poverty, #2 Zero Hunger and #11 Sustainable Cities and Communities.

These photographs were made for a project report on food security in Bangalore from the Indian Institute for Human Settlements. It is the first large-scale survey of household food security in Bangalore and aims to provide researchers and policy-makers with detailed data and information about food security in Bangalore, as well as insights into the city’s food system. A collection of these photographs were also part of an exhibition titled Oota Aytha (a very common Kannada greeting, which translates to “Have you eaten?”). It also featured animations, videos and graphics by artist and researcher Gauri Nagpal.
